About Paul Smith

I hold a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s in Mathematics from UC Irvine. Before tutoring full-time, I worked as a Quantitative Strategist at Goldman Sachs, where I developed advanced mathematical models for Wall Street. For the past decade — and exclusively for the last several years — I have dedicated myself to tutoring and academic mentorship.

What sets my program apart is continuity: students work with me across multiple subjects and over many years of their academic journey. I provide instruction in mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, and related STEM fields, offering support from middle school through advanced college-level work while adapting as each student’s needs evolve. This long-term relationship allows me to understand each student’s learning style deeply, refine my approach year after year, and become a more effective partner in their success.

My Students

My students are motivated young people with busy lives, often balancing school with athletics, arts, or other demanding commitments. Some are working toward admission to highly selective universities, while others want steady support so academics don’t dominate their evenings. Families choose my program for the consistency, mentorship, and peace of mind it provides — parents can rest easy knowing their student is receiving the highest level of academic care.

By limiting membership, I ensure every student has the access they need, whether that means steady weekly progress or last-minute support during exams. Over the years, my students have earned admission to many of the world’s most selective universities, including Stanford, Columbia, UC Berkeley, Princeton, University of Michigan, University of Chicago, UCLA, Northwestern, UC San Diego and USC.

“We are so grateful for our tutor, Paul. He is personable, motivating, and makes learning something our teenagers actually look forward to. Thanks to his support, both of our children have gained success and confidence in mathematics.”
